Rockford 1500.1bd going into protect
i have a oldschool rockford 1500.1bd its a good amp, i like it and have never had a problem with it till now. for some reason now, the amp keeps going into protection mode. this has been happening since the gain was tuned. at first it was fine, then just cut off. the protection light comes on and it does not put out any power. my sub is wired in series 4ohm. my amp is both 4 and 2 ohm stable. putting out about 1000 watts at 4 and 1500 at 2. i dont really understand what the problem is and how this little adjustment in the gain would cause this. any ideas?
im looking at getting a new amp now and running 1ohm and i would like to be getting 1500 watts to my subwoofer. and i was planning on getting either
RF 1000.1bd (about 1450watts at 1 ohm)
RF 1500.1bd (about 1750watts at 1 ohm)
but after looking at some other models of amps i came accross the Hifonics Brutus BXI1610D 1600watts at 1 ohm. should i stay with rockford? or go with hifonics? pricewise hifonics will be a little cheaper 200 shipped, i can get a refurbished T1500.1 for 400 bucks from a licenced RF seller
advice, ideas?

It sounds to me like your amp is fine. You do not have the electrical in that honda to support the amp when the gain is turned up. Get a Digital multimeter and test the voltage at the amp while it is turned up loud. I'm guessing you are dropping too low.

well its been in protect mode for a long time. i unplugged it and plugged it back in and still nothing. even when i turned the gain down. it seems like big brick now. doesnt even spark when i plug in the power wire

You might have burnt a component due to the low voltage. This is going to happen to the next amp you put in also if you don't fix your electrical. Try hooking the amp up in a buddies car if you can, see if it comes out of protect. Get that stinger volt meter, it's really worth the $25 or so.

DO NOT put a regular car battery in the trunk of your civic, when they charge they emmit toxic fumes that can kill you and the acid can ruin your interior. Its AGM battery or nothing for interior of vehicle
